Greg H. Martin
Greg H. Martin, the Founder and Owner, was born and raised in Cayce, SC. He earned his first executive chef position at Forest Lake Club in Columbia after working at many fine establishments across SC. There he oversaw all the kitchen operations for three dining rooms as well as special events and weddings. After traveling and holding positions leading kitchens at private clubs and resorts in Maryland and Florida, he then assumed the role of Food & Beverage Director at The Members Club at Woodcreek & WildeWood in NE Columbia. After two years managing all hospitality operations at both clubs, he then accepted the role of Director of Dietary Services at an upscale retirement community. It was there that he found his love for nutrition and meal planning. Helping people live better through proper nutrition became a passion for him. With that in mind, he decided to open Primal Gourmet right here in his hometown to provide his community with a place to buy freshly prepared healthy food options that are convenient for the modern lifestyle. Greg loves visiting Las Vegas, boats, all things pirate, and currently resides in Cayce, SC with his Great Dane Luna.
Jennifer Moons Boyd, General Manager, oversees all aspects of Primal Gourmet. She brings over a decade of Food and Beverage experience, including Fine Dining, as well as 10 years of Executive Administration experience. President of the Guignard Neighborhood Association, Secretary of the River District Association, and former Member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for West Columbia, Jennifer continues her family’s legacy of being involved with the community. She is the granddaughter of Anne Moye, founder of Midlands Technical College’s Nursing Program, was Director of Nursing at Baptist Medical Center for over 20 years, and who received a Key to the City when she retired. Her grandfather, Benjamin R. Moye, coached football at Greenwood High School, Presbyterian College, and Brookland-Cayce High School and was instrumental in organizing Little League Baseball in the West Columbia/Cayce area. Jennifer resides in West Columbia with her husband, former Gamecock Tight End Andy Boyd, in the historic 130-year-old Victorian home where she grew up. Jennifer and Andy enjoy visiting regional antique markets, working in their garden, going on hikes around the midlands, and spending time with family and friends.
As Executive Chef, Jonathon Mitchell oversees every aspect of the kitchen here at Primal Gourmet. After working his way up to a kitchen management level in the Casual Fine Dining sector, in 2005 he took his culinary education further by joining our owner Chef Greg H. Martin at Forest Lake Club in the banquet department. It was there he expanded his knowledge and worked his way up the ladder to Executive Sous Chef. He then took his first Executive Chef position at The Members Club at Woodcreek and WildeWood. After several years in the private club industry, he spent time working in healthcare as Executive Chef at Covenant Place of Sumter. It was there that Jonathon learned about meal planning and therapeutic nutrition, gaining valuable knowledge on how to cook for health. He was then called away to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in downtown Columbia to serve as Executive Chef for five years, but he missed the variety and creativity of constantly designing new menus. His love for creativity in cooking and helping people eat better brought him here to Primal Gourmet where he keeps quality high for our incredible customers. Chef Jonathon resides nearby in Lexington, SC and enjoys concerts, dining out, and everything sports related.
Meal Pack Chef
A New Jersey transplant, Danny brings 20 years of fine dining and personal chef experience to the Primal Gourmet team. Coming from a Greek and Italian background, culinary arts and kitchens became a passion to him at a young age. Danny’s first mainstream kitchen was the popular NJ Zagat-rated restaurant, "Roots Steak House," in 2005, where he later became Sous chef for the years to follow. After leaving Roots, he started his Catering and Personal Chef business. Danny moved down to SC in 2015 with his wife, Tracey, who is also a vital Primal Gourmet team member. Wanting to get back into a mainstream kitchen, he found a position at a local restaurant owned and operated by a James Beard nominee. Working there for the next four years, he decided he wanted to round out his skills, so he joined us to learn the different aspects of dietary food. As Meal Pack Chef, Danny ensures all meals and components are made to specific nutritional needs to be delivered or picked up at one of our convenient local locations. Danny and Tracey now reside in Gaston with their small homestead of animals.
As Market Chef, Ashley oversees all aspects of production and product procurement. She helps us find all those incredible local products and turn them into quality meals for our customers. She initially received her BS in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at Clemson University. Ten years later she discovered her passion for cooking and decided to return to school at the Art Institute of Charleston and then received her AA in Culinary Arts. She went on to manage the kitchen at the locally popular Cafe Strudel in West Columbia. Ashley currently resides in Cayce with her wife Tut.
